Stand Up for Georgia's Students: Support HB 60

Otha Thornton, Jr. /February 28, 2025
No student should go hungry in the classroom, and Georgia HB 60 is our chance to ensure that every student in need has access to the nutrition they require to thrive. As legislators, our most important obligation is to our children, and we owe it to them to provide a quality education—one that starts with ensuring they do not go hungry.
Research shows that when students have access to food, attendance improves, test scores rise, and discipline issues decrease. School lunch has been proven to be the most nutritious option, leading to the best outcomes for our children. Yet, even with meals available, many students still face financial barriers that leave them hungry while their peers enjoy full plates. This not only hampers their learning but also negatively affects their mental health.
Our children deserve every opportunity to succeed, and HB 60 puts their futures first by ensuring free and/or reduced lunch for all students, especially those who need it most. This common-sense solution will help prevent Georgia’s youngest and brightest from falling behind simply because their families cannot afford food.
Join us for a Day of Action on Tuesday, March 4th! Beginning at 7:30AM ET a press conference will be held on the south wing steps at 2:00 PM ET. Let’s come together to advocate for Georgia HB 60 and ensure that no student goes hungry in our classrooms.
Take action now! Reach out to your representatives and show your support for this vital legislation. Together, we can make a difference!
